Preseason Update – Jarrod Cotton

NORWOOD coach Jarrod Cotton is excited about the upcoming 2019 season as his playing squad has reconvened for the first time this preseason.

Despite having some time off, Cotton spent most of the time planning Norwood’s 2019 preseason, amongst looking back at footage identifying areas he feels the Redlegs need to improve on next year.

As the entire Redlegs group – besides new acquisitions Dom and Dylan Barry, Cotton declared that he is working on a number of areas in an attempt to go one step further in 2019.

“As a group, preseason is the perfect time to start putting into practice want we to produce in 2019”, Cotton said.

“Ball movement, defending and accuracy are all areas which I think we can definitely improve on next year.

“Although we averaged 100-points a game, we were ranked ninth in the competition for accuracy which is something going forward we need to tidy up.

“In saying that we did a lot right, it’s just about starting to work with players in making sure we are always improving as we set our sights for success in 2019.”

For Cotton, preseason is also about bringing in players he thinks can help the group in 2019 and beyond.

Norwood has lost a fair bit of experience out the door, however have been busy in the off-season gaining the services of Dom and Dylan Barry, Josh Donohue, Josh Miller, and ex-panther Cody Szust to name a few.

“Our recruits have all been excellent since joining,” Cotton said.

“Cody Szust hasn’t missed a training yet and we think he can really add something to the group in terms of a forward/midfield option.

“Josh Donohue is back at the club, he’s a Premiership player who knows what it takes to win at the highest level, Josh Miller returns to the club as well as Dom and Dylan Barry who get here in about two weeks.

“We are really excited about what they all can bring and hopefully they can complement the list we have in order to play some exciting football in 2019.”
