2022 Hostplus SANFL League Grand Final ‘Festival of Footy’

The big stage is set for a blockbuster Hostplus SANFL League Grand Final between North Adelaide and Norwood tomorrow – Sunday, September 18.

In addition to all the on-field action, a jam-packed ‘Festival of Footy’ Grand Final events program will feature in and around Adelaide Oval from midday.

SANFL Chief Executive Officer Darren Chandler said he was anticipating a big crowd, with this being the first time since 2019 that the SANFL Grand Final will be played at Adelaide Oval without a cap on spectators. That year, more than 39,000 spectators turned out for the Grand Final which saw Glenelg win its first premiership in 33 years, overcoming Port Adelaide.

“In 2018 we saw more than 40,300 spectators at the people witness the 2018 clash between premiers North Adelaide and Norwood – the biggest SANFL Grand Final crowd in 20 years,” Mr Chandler said.

“While the on-field action will be intense on Sunday, fans will have added incentive to head to this year’s Grand Final with a ‘Festival of Footy’ to add a real carnival atmosphere to the main event.”

SANFL is this year working with Adelaide Fringe artists to provide roving pre-match performers around the stadium, including acrobats and stilt walkers in Roosters and Redlegs colours and face painters.

A new collaboration with the City to Bay event also will see entrants in the fun run the opportunity to access discounted Grand Final tickets and transport back to Adelaide Oval on Sunday. All day parking for just $5 also is available on Sunday at Wilson Car Parks in the CBD for all City to Bay entrants and anyone attending the SANFL Grand Final.

Adding to the Grand Final festivities will be:

  • A kids zone in Creswell Gardens, eastern side of the stadium, including inflatable activities, jumping castle and ‘Goal Cards’ – giving kids an opportunity to write their own personal message of support to teams and players.
  • Powerade Talent Hub – a ‘mini Draft combine’ where kids can test themselves against Draftees and take home Powerade giveaways
  • Partner marquees, giveaways and entertainment on Telstra Plaza between 12:00pm and 3pm, including McDonalds food voucher giveaways and Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation beanies for sale.
  • SEN SA pre-game show on Telstra Plaza
  • The Village Green inside the Oval featuring food trucks, Serafino Wine Garden and live music before and during the game
  • Kia Cup entry – in what is a SANFL tradition, legends of both clubs to bring the Thomas Seymour Hill trophy onto the ground
  • National Anthem performed by Chloe Bremner
  • SANFL Parade of National Champions – held at halftime of the Grand Final, featuring the U16 Torrens University Boys State Team, U18 Girls State Team, U12 and U15 School Sport SA teams around the oval
  • Coles Mini League games on the ground at the half-time break
  • AAMI Dash for Cash half-time relay sprint around the Oval, including both men’s and women’s SANFL players competing for the first time.
  • The Advertiser Afterparty on The Village Green after the game with a DJ.

To ensure the Grand Final is also an accessible and inclusive event, SANFL is working with Novita and Adelaide Oval to provide a dedicated space to assist sensory adults and children.

The Grand Final will be broadcast live and free on Channel 7 and 7plus, SANFL Now, SEN SA, Triple M, Fiveaa and ABC Sport.
